The floods that resulted from the tropical storm Ketsana lashing the Philippines at the end of September 2009 are reported by the BBCto have caused 240 deaths.

Pastor Edwin Sonio, leader of a number of Foursquare churches on Mindoro Island in which Anne regularly ministers, sent the following email to her on 3 October:

Hi!
September 25- 26 up to now is amemorable day for us here in the Philippines. After almost two months of rain, last week we experienced a strong typhoon that hit our place. In Aroma they suffered from the flood - some of the people have no food to eat, there were no classes for almostone week because of flooding and many children got sick, cold, cough. Maybe you heard in the news about the situation here.

Our country is now in the state of calamity. The price of rice and vegetables go high ... no more fish in the market and vegetables ...we cannot afford to buy all the commodities because of very high price ... our brothers and sisters eat once a day ... the rain continues up to now. The fisherman cannot go fishing and the crops of the farmers aredestroyed because of twomonths of rain ... there's no alternative. Yesterday the rain was very heavy again because another typhoon came. Some people go to another place, to the higher area. Please pray for us as we suffer from this calamity. We are sharing these situations to you because we are friends and brothers in Christ of yours. I'm asking for your help specifically here in Mamburao and Aroma, becausefinancially our church can't help even in kinds because of the income of the church is very low. I'm appealing for your help in any amount you want to help - we will appreciate much.

If you will help us we will buy rice, noodles and medicine and we will distribute or give to the parents. At presentI cannot help them because we are in the same situation and are also depending on God's grace to us ...
I know you love and care and you have a big heart for the people so I write this letter for you to know our situation now...Thank you for your care and love we will continue to pray for your ministry...
God Bless you

With much prayer
Pastor Edwin Sonio
